Removing Scratches from Wooden Furniture: a Step-by-Step Guide
Scratches might seem permanent, but all hope is not lost! You can deal with most stains using very simple ingredients in just a few minutes.
Method 1: Iodine
Iodine is a dark-tinted liquid usually used to clean wounds. It is sold under the brand name “Betadine”. Add some Iodine to a cotton swab, and apply it to the surface of the scratch. Make sure you wipe any excess iodine from around the scratch. What you want is for the iodine to cover only the light-colored surface of the stain.
Method 2: Black Tea
Yes, good old black tea. Just place a tea bag in an empty cup, and add 3 tablespoons of boiling water. Leave the teabag in the cup for around 3 minutes until the water darkens. Then spread the tea on the scratch surface and wipe off any excess. If the scratch doesn’t darken enough to blend into the original wood color, repeat the same process again until the colors match.
Method 3: Instant Coffee
Coffee stains don’t always mean having to throw away your favorite shirt! Dilute some instant coffee in a few tablespoons of water, and spread the liquid on the scratch surface to tint it and change its color. Repeat until the scratch becomes invisible.
